Family: Lepidosirenidae This family holds the single species of S. American lungfish, Lepidosiren paradoxa. These eel-like animals are quite distinct from the bony fish in anatomy. The lungfish is common in lakes in islands within the main channel of the River Amazon and in lakes with the floodplain.
